I haven't been exactly on time... but fuckit. Heres the song, and more importantly video of the week for this week. This one comes from Mississippi's Saving Abel. Their self-titled debut album is one of those discs that you can just let play and enjoy the entire thing. Here is "Addicted".

This week's tune is a personal favourite of mine, Shinedown's cover of 'Simple Man'. The song was originally written by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Great song.

TESLA

I came across this band today, and I can't seem to take their new cd off of repeat in iTunes. They are Tesla. Originating from Sacramento, California, they have a very unique sound that could be described as hardrock - although they don't fit the very generic mold cast by most "hardrock" bands.

And yes - for you science nerds out there - they are named after the patron saint of modern electricity, Nikola Tesla. Sweet.

Check out their new album "Forever More", you won't be disappointed - Especially the track "So What!"

Thats it. With Tom Brady's season ending knee injury in week 1, my fantasy football team is more or less screwed. Not that I put all of my eggs in one basket, so to speak, but a big time quarterback like Brady is someone you would tend to build a team around.

On the other hand, having a glimpse into week one stats and shopping for a QB could be an advantage albeit a small one. Which brings me to my Brady replacement. Atlanta Falcons' rookie Matt Ryan had an impressive debut tossing his first career NFL pass attempt and first touchdown toss - a 62-yarder to Michael Jenkins - on the same play. He could flop in the post-Vick Falcons offense, but I am going to see what happens. What have I got to lose? If he tanks, Jake Delhomme will be the man. Not a terrible option either.

Back to the Grind

For all of us that are (still) students that time has come to shift gears from one type of work to another. Summer is nearly officially over, marked by the end of summer jobs and the begin of yet another year of classes and relentless homework.

Usually, I dread this annual event as it normally drains most of the funds saved over the previous four months, and plummets most of us students into a state of near-poverty. This year will be the same, but much different. I am actually looking forward to this year because it will be my last as an undergrad student. Instead of looking to this time next year and finding myself in the same old situation, it will be different. I could be working in a real job, making real money - something that I have been after for quite a while. Another possibility is the Graduate Studies option. This is the decision that haunts me. Will having a Master's or possibly a Ph.D be worth the extra 3-4 years? I am not so sure if it will. As it stands right now, I feel like I should test the job market and see what is out there for me before I commit to advancing my education even further. That said, I may have a great opportunity to continue my studies without having to move.

All in all, it is too much to think about at this juncture in time, I have a full year of classes to get through in order to graduate with honours - something that is required before any future options become a reality. I look forward to the challenge.

This is the day that Metallica's new studio album Death Magnetic hits store shelves. This will be their ninth studio album, and followup to 2003's St. Anger. I am more than excited for this disc because 5 years is a long time to wait. I will admit that their previous effort, although very different in style, was good but not great - like I have come to expect from these guys. The first single "The Day That Never Comes" sounds much like the greatness I have become accustomed to... and evokes thoughts of the Metallica of old. In my humble opinion, what is really impressive is the fact that all four members of the band are in their mid-forties!

Now, the good news aside... I am going to rant. With all this hype, I found myself lurking on Metallica.com looking for tour dates. In the past they have made a stop in Saskatoon to rock the masses. Scanning the dates, getting ready to see our beloved city listed.... Vancouver...., Edmonton...., Calgary...., Toronto. What. The. Fuck.

For those of you that have never been to a Metallica show, you seriously do not know what you are missing out on. This band puts on a killer show that tops any I have ever seen. Needless to say, omitting Saskatoon is serious error in judgement James/Lars/Kirk/Rob. On their St. Anger tour, they promised that they would be back. I know this because I was there. I was an eye-witness.

Now, tell me, how is that justice for all?

I decided to rename this blog. Why, you ask? I am not really too sure, it seemed like a logical idea at the time. The new title is also quite fun to say. I imagine that over the next little while, it will change several times. That is all.

In terms of addictions, my latest seems like one of the good ones to have. It seems as if I have become addicted to running. The biggest problem with something like this is simple motivation. I bought a Nike+, a device that connects to my iPod Nano and tracks my runs. Distance, time, pace, and even calories burned are some of the stats it collects. Once you sync your iPod, it downloads your runs to Nike's website where you can compete in challenges and track your progress. I found Nike's website to be somewhat buggy. I found www.Runnerplus.com to be a much better alternative.

For a novice runner, I have impressed myself. In the half-month that I have had my Nike+, I have run just over 42km. Seems fairly decent?

I have never really been someone who was actually interested in blogging. I have typically only enjoyed reading blogs. I cannot honestly say why I decided to start blogging, I really have nothing important to say. I guess I just figured that since I enjoyed reading them, I might enjoy writing them?

Only time will tell.
